Dabema or Dahoma is an African native hardwood found primarily in West, Central, and East Africa. Its scientific name is Piptadeniastrum africanum (syn. Piptadenia africana). The trees are about 100-165 ft (30-50 m) tall with a 3-6 ft (1-1.8 m) trunk diameter. The average dried weight of Dabema is 43.4 lbs/ft3 (695 kg/m3) and Janka hardness is 1,520 lbf (6,740 N).
Heartwood from dabema is pale yellowish or reddish brown. Contrasting sapwood ranges in colour from light grey to pale yellow and can be up to six inches (15 cm) wide. Usually, grains are entangled. with an average natural sheen and a consistent coarse texture. With a moderate resistance to termites, insects and borers, it is rated as being reasonably durable. Other names for it include African greenheart. Both hand and machine tools can be used with ease when working with it, but the wood has the propensity to blunt cutting blades.
Although dahoma is reasonably priced, it is more frequently exported to Europe. Heavy construction, flooring, furniture, cabinetry, boatbuilding, docks, and turned objects are a few applications.
